‘Editor’s Note:

After our story on the Great Plates program on Wednesday several people reached out to Pasadena Now to praise the program.

FEMA extended the program on June 10, which allows local restaurants to team up with the city to deliver three meals a day to local seniors, to July 10.

The program can receive one additional extension, which would allow it to operate until Aug. 10.

Most of the expenses will be reimbursed by FEMA.

That’s a Great Plate

My name is Tina. I’m reaching out to you, because I would like to thank the City of Pasadena on behalf of my mother. My mom will be 88 years old this year and because of her age she falls into the “high risk” category during this pandemic. Besides being confined to her home in order to prevent catching COVID 19, she is also disabled and cannot cook for herself. The Great Plates Delivered program has been a blessing to her for the past month. She looks forward to her food delivery every day, and she also loves the food!

I know people always speak up when they have a complaint, but this program has affected my mom (and me, because I don’t have to worry about how she will eat) in such a great way, that I want to reach out and express our gratitude. It’s wonderful to know Pasadena cares about it’s eniors…because they deserve it. I also think it’s great how this program supports local small food businesses during these trying times. Again, a heartfelt THANK YOU to the City of Pasadena for making this possible, I’m sure my mom is not the only one benefitting from this, my guess is that there are many seniors who are thankful as well.
