We Get Letters: Try and Keep Services in House at PWP

Dear Mayor and Council:

Before rubber stamping this staff request for approval of a $4 million contract for management and consultant services consider whether or not these services can be performed by PWP employees.  If not, why not?  PWP spends a staggering sum for outside consultant services, much of which falls below the threshold for Council approval.  Each time such a proposal is submitted to you for approval, ask staff to provide you with an update on how much has been spent on outside consulting services.  You will be shocked at the total amount being spent each year.  I was when I reviewed the documents provided to me pursuant to a public records act request.
