West Hollywood Mayor to Seek Congressman Schiff’s Seat, Which Represents A Portion of Pasadena

West Hollywood Mayor Sepi Shyne will seek Adam Schiff’s seat in the state’s California’s 30th Congressional District.

The seat is currently held by Adam Schiff (D-Pasadena).

Earlier this month, state Sen. Anthony Portantino (D-Pasadena) announced plans to seek the seat.

Former Los Angeles City Attorney Mike Feuer, Los Angeles Unified School Board member Nick Melvoin, Assemblymember Laura Friedman (D-Glendale), Joshua Bocanegra, Maebe A. Girl and Ben Savage have announced plans to run also.

According to a statement released on Tuesday, Shyne is the first out LGBTQ+ woman of Iranian descent to hold office in the world.

According to the statement, this will be Shyne’s opportunity to shatter the glass ceiling once again and take that first to Congress. 

“I understand first hand what it means to fight for a safer, stronger future for yourself, your family and your community. It’s a fight I’ve been a part of my entire life, one I’ve fought alongside so many in our community – and it’s a fight that I’m ready to bring to our nation’s capital as our next Congresswoman,” Shyne said about her run for Congress.

First elected to the West Hollywood City Council in 2020, Shyne has been a lifelong advocate for and delivered on some of the biggest challenges of our time: mental health care, affordable housing and homelessness, climate action, LGBTQ+ equality, social justice, reproductive rights, fair wages and creating communities where every person feels safe.

It’s where people from all over the nation, the world come together to make their hopes and dreams come true – and I’ve dedicated my career to ensuring that every person can access and benefit from the promises America makes.
