Westridge School Wants to Expand

Published on Monday, May 18, 2020 | 10:01 am

Westridge School for Girls wants to increase student enrollment from 502 to 550, and the number of full-time faculty/staff from 105 to 150.

These changes are allowed by the Pasadena private school’s approved Master Plan, but other proposed changes, such as changing the configuration of the existing parking lot to increase the number of spaces, requires a Conditional Use Permit.

The CUP application will be heard Wednesday, May 20, 5:30 p.m., at a public meeting by the City Hearing Officer through teleconferencing.

The school at 324 Madeline Drive wants to set up tandem parking with the installation of vertical vehicle lifts within the existing lot, according to a report by the Department of Planning and Community Development.

Westridge School for Girls is a private school for grades 4 through 12. Its Master Plan was first approved in January 1994. First and second amendments were approved in 1998 and 2002, respectively. The current Master Plan was the third amendment, and approved by the City Council in September 2007.

The 10-year Master Plan was renewed on October 26, 2016 with a 10-year extension, which is valid through September 24, 2027, the report said.

The development components of the Master Plan have been approved to occur in three phases. Phase I, which included consolidation of an adjoining residential lot into the school site, demolition of a single-family residence, and construction of an Upper School Science Center on the new site, has been completed.

Phase II, which involves tearing down Gertrude Hall Lecture and Classroom buildings, constructing new Middle School Buildings, and renovating the existing library, has not yet started.

Phase III will include demolition of the Ranney House and State Street surface parking lot, construction of new Lower School Buildings over one-level of subterranean parking structure, and minor alterations to the east side of Braun Science Building, the report said.
