Wet Weather All Week Forecast for Pasadena

Published on Sunday, March 8, 2020 | 6:28 pm

After weeks of mostly clear and sunny weather, Pasadena is heading into at least a week of wet weather, as an “atmospheric river,” a narrow corridor of concentrated moisture in the atmosphere, passes through the region and brings a series of storms throughout Los Angeles County.

Beginning Monday, a storm is expected to spread rain and gusty winds across the region, with the heaviest rain and a chance of thunderstorms expected Tuesday through early Wednesday. Showers could linger into Friday and early Saturday as well, the NWS said.

Meteorologist Kristen Stewart with the NWS in Oxnard told the Los Angeles Times that Monday’s storm will linger through at least Wednesday, and the foothills of the San Gabriel Mountains, including Pasadena, could see up to four inches of rain, she said.

The Southland was expecting some winter storms earlier, but a high-pressure ridge was over the eastern Pacific through January and February and rerouted the storms, resulting into one of the driest February on record in Downtown Los Angeles.

Weather experts say a “miracle March” may still be possible, referring to a phenomenon in March 1991 when heavy rainfall helped the Sierra snowpack in Northern California recover from record low levels. When the snowpack melts in April, it helps bolster winter rain totals and helps keep the state out of drought conditions.

“This upcoming storm will bring us pretty close to where we need to be,” Stewart told the L.A. Times.

For the week’s forecast, Monday should see a 20-percent chance of rain after 11 a.m. It should be mostly cloudy, with a high near 72.

Rain is likely Monday night, mainly after 11 p.m., with lows around 51.

Tuesday’s rain chance could go up to 100 percent, with possibly a thunderstorm, and highs near 67. An east wind of 10 to 15 mph could have gusts as high as 20 mph.

Tuesday night should have and possibly a thunderstorm. The chance of rain remains at 100 percent.

Rain is likely on Wednesday, which should be partly sunny, with highs near 68. The chance of precipitation goes down to 70 percent.

Wednesday night will be mostly cloudy with a chance of rain mainly before 11 p.m. and lows around 50.

Thursday should see a chance of rain and patchy fog before 11 a.m. Highs should be near 70.

Thursday night through Friday should see a slight chance of rain in Pasadena, with highs near 70 and lows around 51.

A slight chance of rain is possible Saturday, which should be partly sunny, with a high near 68.
