According to seniority and council custom Felicia Williams is set to assume vice mayor when the next City Council is sworn in on Dec. 12.

Williams currently serves on the Finance Committee, the Municipal Services Committee, Foothill Transit Board and currently serves as Vice Chair of the Airport Authority.

She will chair the authority next year.

The vice mayor is elected at the organizational meeting after the City Council is sworn in.

“I have enjoyed my time on Council, meeting constituents and serving their needs,” Williams told Pasadena Now. “I hope to elevate my service to the City as Vice Mayor in December.”

Typically, the longest-serving council member who has not served as vice mayor is elected to the position.

Williams was elected in 2020.

Williams will be the third African-American woman to hold the position since the Board of Directors became the City Council.

Former District 1 councilmembers Joyce Streator and Jacque Robinson were also elected vice mayor by the City Council.

One of the mayor’s primary responsibilities is to run the City Council meetings. The vice mayor runs the council meetings when the mayor is not able to do so.
