Windy Weather Expected Today

Pasadena and much of Los Angeles County are forecast to experience windy conditions today and tonight due to strong winds blowing in from the ocean, according to the National Weather Service.

“Winds from the west and northwest will get stronger throughout the day as weather patterns shift,” the NWS Los Angeles/Oxnard office stated in their Area Forecast Discussion. They noted that powerful winds will develop over the ocean waters and move onshore with “wind gusts of 35 to 40 mph, strong enough to potentially cause minor damage.”

Temperatures are expected to stay cooler than normal across the region today, with highs 6 to 12 degrees below what’s typical for this time of year. The strong winds will prevent any clouds from forming near the coast.

Looking ahead to the weekend, forecasters predict a “nice though still a bit windy day” on Saturday as high pressure builds over the state. Temperatures will warm up by 3 to 6 degrees across the area thanks to the offshore winds and abundance of sunshine.

Sunday is expected to bring pleasant weather with the winds dying down significantly. “Most coastal areas and valleys will see high temperatures in the mid 60s to mid 70s,” according to the NWS discussion.

The extended forecast shows unsettled weather moving in Monday and Tuesday, with an increase in onshore winds later in the week that may allow low clouds to return. Despite this, high pressure is forecast to build allowing for continued warming, with Tuesday projected to be the warmest day in the next week.

Today: Mostly sunny, with a high near 70. South wind 5 to 15 mph becoming west southwest in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 25 mph.

Tonight: Mostly clear, with a low around 50. Breezy, with a northwest wind 10 to 20 mph, with gusts as high as 30 mph.

Saturday: Sunny, with a high near 72. North wind 5 to 15 mph becoming south in the morning. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Saturday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 51. Southwest wind 10 to 15 mph becoming light and variable after midnight. Winds could gust as high as 20 mph.

Sunday: Sunny, with a high near 73. Light and variable wind becoming southwest 5 to 10 mph in the afternoon.

Sunday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 53.

Monday: Sunny, with a high near 77.

Monday Night: Mostly clear, with a low around 55.
