A man threw scalding water on a woman in a seemingly random attack at a Pasadena grocery store on Sunday morning before being found and arrested, police said.
Ivory Julian Anderson, 31, described as a transient, was arrested on suspicion of assault following the unusual crime, which took place about 8:15 a.m. at a Ralphs supermarket, 160 N. Lake Ave., according to Pasadena police officials and Los Angeles County booking records.
A woman in her late-40s was at the businesses when she was approached by a stranger, later identified as Anderson, Pasadena police Lt. Sean Dawkins said.
“[He] assaulted the female by throwing scalding hot water on her in an unprovoked attack,” Dawkins said.
The victim suffered redness and pain, but declined to be taken to a hospital by ambulance, electing to seek medical care on her own, Dawkins said.
Witnesses provided a description of the attacker, and officers soon found and arrested Anderson nearby, he said.
Anderson was being held in lieu of $50,000 pending his initial court appearance, scheduled Tuesday in the Pasadena branch of Los Angeles County Superior Court.

How does one get boiling water at Ralphs? Or do they let just anyone walk around in the store these days?
