Paramedics rushed a woman to a hospital in critical condition Tuesday after she was found on fire and extinguished by a city employee at Villa Parke in what was believed to a suicide attempt, authorities said.

The burn victim, described as a woman in her mid-30s, was hospitalized with third-degree burns over 70% of her body, according to city spokeswoman Lisa Derderian.

A city worker discovered the woman about 1:40 p.m., still on fire inside a bathroom near the soccer fields at the park, 363 E. Villa Street, she said.

The worker retrieved a fire extinguisher from a truck and used to put out the flames, “more than likely saving her life,” according to Derderian.

Police and fire investigators found no signs of foul play and determined the woman appeared to have set herself on fire, Derderian and Pasadena police Lt. William Grisafe said.
