Police arrested a man following an apparently random attack on a woman as she walked along Colorado Boulevard in Pasadena on Thursday afternoon, officials said.
Tyrone Sams, 33, described as a local transient, was arrested on suspicion of assault with a deadly weapon in connection in connection with the crime, which police said took place just before 3:30 p.m. in the 1200 block of E. Colorado Boulevard.
Without provocation, Sams approached the woman and began hitting and kicking her, Pasadena police Lt. Marcia Taglioretti.
The attacker then walked away, and witnesses came to the woman’s aid, she said.
Paramedics examined the woman, who complained of pain in her head and neck, but she was not hospitalized, according to the lieutenant.
Responding officers found the suspect, later identified as Sams, in the area and took him into custody.
According to Los Angeles County Superior Court records, Sams had prior convictions including resisting or obstructing police in 2019 and battery in 2018.
Bail for Sams was set at $30,000 pending his initial appearance in the Pasadena branch of L.A. County Superior Court, which was scheduled Monday.
