Police sought three men in connection with a shooting at a massive Halloween party at a commercial building in Pasadena early Saturday in which one woman was shot and another was pistol-whipped, officials said.
The shooting took place amid a brawl that broke out about 2:30 a.m. as a Halloween party of several hundred people was taking place at Catz Physical Therapy & Sports Performance, 801. S. Raymond Ave., according to Pasadena police Lt. Anthony Burgess.
A fight erupted during the party before at least one person pulled a gun and began shooting, he said.
A 21-year-old woman was wounded in the stomach, Burgess said. Police suspected she was not an intended target of the shooting. She was hospitalized with injuries described as major, but was expected to survive.
Another woman in her 20s suffered serious head injuries when she was pistol-whipped and was also hospitalized for treatment, according to Burgess.
A group of three men who fled the area in white sedan and a red sedan were believed to be connected to the shooting, he said. Detailed descriptions were not available.
Police were working to find out who organized the party, Lt. Mario Ortiz told City News Service.
The shooting took place two days after police and city officials hosted an “emergency community meeting” at Robinson Park in Pasadena to address a spate of recent shootings in the city.
As of Saturday, eight shootings had been reported over the previous eight days in Pasadena, resulting in five victims being wounded by gunfire, officials said.
