The National Women’s Political Caucus-Greater Pasadena Area released its endorsements of local candidates on Monday in Pasadena elections.

“We’re pleased to support these women,” said Caucus PAC chair Susan Kane, “and we commend all the women who step up to run for office in their communities.”

The caucus endorsed Ciran Hadjian in the District 7 Pasadena City Council race.

Hadjian is squaring off against Jason Lyon and Allen Shay for the seat currently occupied by Vice Mayor Andy Wilson.

The caucus also reaffirmed its endorsement for women who are running in uncontested races in June 2022.

The caucus announced its support of City Councilmember Jess Rivas who is running unopposed in District 5 and Sandra Chen Lau, Pasadena Community College Board of Trustees Area 1.

“The endorsement process is profoundly inspiring,” said Greater Pasadena Area Caucus Chair Katie Clark. “Meeting these women and hearing their passion and commitment to making their communities better is a privilege, and we couldn’t be more proud to support them.”

The National Women’s Political Caucus is a non-partisan organization that supports candidates who align with certain bottom-line issues for women, including reproductive freedom; equal rights and equal pay; quality, affordable dependent care, and an end to discrimination and sexual harassment/violence against women.

Since its founding in 1971 by a group of women including Shirley Chisholm, Betty Friedan, Fannie Lou Hamer, Gloria Steinem, Bella Abzug, and others, the National Women’s Political Caucus has worked to increase women’s participation at all levels of government. NWPC-GPA is a multi-partisan grassroots organization working to increase women’s participation in the political process in the greater Pasadena area, including Pasadena, Altadena, Glendale, Sierra Madre, and La Cañada.
