School Board Candidate Wu Fredericks Picks Up Another Endorsement

Pasadena Unified School District Board of Education candidate Tina Wu Fredericks has picked up the endorsement of state Assemblyman Kansen Chu (D-San Jose).

“Tina is following in the footsteps of her late mother, Ann Woo, a world-renowned champion of multicultural arts, who brought together a community around a shared vision. I trust Tina will stand up for quality public education for all children,” Chu said in his endorsement.

Chu began his career in public service on the Berryessa Union School District board of education in 2002. He is co-author of Assembly Bill 8 which would put a mental health professional in every California school.

Wu Fredericks is running against Milena Albert, Priscilla Hernandez, and Crystal Czubernat for the PUSD’s District 6 seat on the Board of Education.

Earlier this month, Wu Fredericks received the endorsement of Assemblyman Chris Holden (D-Pasadena), a former mayor of Pasadena.

She is also endorsed by the Los Angeles County Democratic Party and the California School Employees Association, Local 434, which represents classified workers throughout the PUSD.

“California ranks 41st across the country in per-pupil spending. Unacceptable. Decades ago, California had world-class schools. We can have that again,” said Wu Fredericks.

This year’s election will be a plurality election, meaning whichever candidate gets the most votes wins.

The winners will have to contend with tough issues, including declining enrollment and a plan to reopen schools. Students have been practicing distance learning since March. A spate of recent school closures has left some local parents unhappy.
