The YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley is still accepting nominations for the Racial Justice Award, to be presented at this year’s 13th Annual Women for Racial Justice Breakfast, held at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel. On Monday, October 12th, 2015, the YWCA Pasadena-Foothill Valley will host the 13th Annual Women for Racial Justice Breakfast. The event is scheduled from 7:00 – 9:00 am, and will be held at the Pasadena Hilton Hotel, located at 168 S. Los Robles Ave in Pasadena.

Since 2002, the YWCA’s Women for Racial Justice Breakfast has brought together over 500 of Pasadena’s most influential members of the business, civic, and philanthropic communities to share in our efforts to promote and support racial justice. This inspirational event also recognizes a local individual, business, or community organization for their accomplishments toward eradicating racism and inequality. Come celebrate our differences and be a part of our continued work towards racial justice.

This is a wonderful opportunity to recognize a woman, business, or organization that has actively been working to end racism and further racial harmony and inclusiveness. Nominees must reside in the Pasadena-Foothill Valley region and are speaking out against racism and encouraging racial justice and interracial understanding. Previous awardees include Lorna Touryan Miller (2014), Dr. Jacqueline Jacobs (2013), and the National Hispanic Media Coalition (2012).

If you would like to nominate an individual, business, or organization, please contact Jessica Kubel, Associate Director, at (626) 296-8433, or via email at jkubel@ywca-pasadena.org. Nomination forms can also be found at the YWCA website: www.ywca-pasadena.org. Nominations must be received no later than Friday, June 31st, 2015.

This year, the keynote speaker will be Angelica Salas, Executive Director of the Coalition for Humane Immigration Rights Los Angeles (CHIRLA). Since becoming CHIRLA’s director in 1999, Ms. Salas has spearheaded and won several ambitious campaigns. She helped win in-state tuition and access to financial aid for immigrant students, and most recently helped win drivers licenses for the undocumented community in California. She is a prominent figure in ethnic and mainstream press and is often quoted on the all issues related to immigrant well-being.
