2016 Innovation Exposition to be Held at McKinley School for the Arts

Calling All Scientists, Engineers, and Innovators

The Pasadena Unified School District’s Innovation Exposition on April 8, 2016 at Mckinley School for the Arts, is a novel approach to inspire students to think critically and explore their interests and talents in STEM.

Calling all mentors!

Mentors are asked to donate up to 4 hours to students by critiquing their projects. This not only gives feedback to students that will help them grown academically, but it also gives them a chance to interact with STEM professionals.

The Innovation Exposition is much more than a science fair – it enables students to explore interests and talents by offering five elective categories from which students can choose: Invention, Science Fiction, Environmental Innovation, Engineering (Reverse), and Scientific Inquiry.

Students in grades K-3 are automatically placed in the non-competitive arena. Students in grades 4-9 will have the option to allow judges to critique their project, or simply display it for viewing. Collaborative groups of 2-3 are permitted to work on projects and, in the noncompetitive arena, even parents and mentors can work in tandem with students.

Due to judge availability and space restrictions, sites are only allowed to send a limited number of projects to the competitive series.

The restrictions are as follows:

• Elementary schools are allowed to submit up to 10 competitive projects for grades 4&5.
• Middle Schools are allowed to submit up to 12 competitive projects for grades 6-8.
• Each site (K-8) is allowed to submit up to 15 non-competitive projects. If more than the allowed number of projects per site register, the first allotted number, based on the time stamp, will be submitted to the exposition.

Sign ups must be received by April 1st , 2016 at 5:00 p.m. ALL entries must be pre-registered. Students or schools that fail to register will not be allowed to participate.
