Alverno Heights Students Celebrate Black History Month with Campus Kindness March
At Alverno Heights Academy, students recently turned a lesson in history and character into a visible expression of unity across campus.
In recognition of Black History Month, kindergarten students partnered with their fifth-grade “buddies” to organize a kindness march that encouraged peaceful action and community spirit. The student-led activity invited classmates from other grade levels to join the procession, creating a moment of shared reflection and connection throughout the school.
The march was inspired by the ideals of peaceful advocacy and collective responsibility often associated with the civil rights movement. With guidance from their teachers, students discussed how acts of kindness, empathy, and courage can contribute to positive change—both within their school community and beyond.
As the younger and older students walked together across campus, they symbolized the academy’s emphasis on mentorship and collaboration between grade levels. The buddy system, a hallmark of Alverno Heights Academy’s approach to student life, allows older students to guide and support younger classmates, fostering leadership skills and a sense of belonging.
The event also offered an age-appropriate opportunity for students to engage with the significance of Black History Month. Through conversation and participation, students reflected on the values of inclusion, respect, and peaceful action that have shaped pivotal moments in American history.
Educators at Alverno Heights Academy regularly integrate experiential learning opportunities that connect classroom lessons with meaningful activities. By combining historical awareness with community-building experiences, the school encourages students to see themselves as thoughtful participants in a larger story of progress and compassion.
The kindness march served as a reminder that even the youngest voices can contribute to a culture of empathy—one step, and one act of kindness, at a time.
