For the past seven years Alverno’s theatre department has participated in the Fullerton College’s High School Theatre Festival, a two day event in which 60-70 schools descend on the Orange County campus for acting and design competitions. In spring of 2019 Julia Vallen received the trophy for 1st place classical dramatic monologue.

This year the event took place virtually and and four of its students, Ava Villages, Danielle Campos Martell, Allie Salinas and Claire Cook sent in performance tapes to the monologue competition.

With over 900 entries senior Allie Salinas made it to the finals and senior Claire Cook won 1st place in the modern comedic category with her piece from Rosencrantz and Guildenstern are Dead.

“Congratulations to all of our students and to our amazing Performing Arts Director, Ms. Cales!”

About Alverno Heights Academy

Alverno Heights Academy is an all-girls, independent, progressive Catholic, college preparatory school dedicated to its mission of empowering each young woman to be exactly the person she wants to be. Located on the property of the former Barlow Estate in Sierra Madre, California, Alverno Heights Academy was founded in 1960 by the Sisters of St. Francis who sought to create an environment in the San Gabriel Valley where young women could become informed and knowledgeable persons. Later renamed Alverno High School and sponsored by the Immaculate Heart Community, Alverno’s program—academic, spiritual, aesthetic, social, and physical—has been shaped by the staff, trustees, and students. As Alverno Heights Academy once again, the school remains committed to its mission by encouraging each of their young women to be who they imagine.
