Arcadia Montessori School’s Red Rods Maze

The Red Rods Maze is a creative extension of the classic Montessori Red Rods activity, using 10 wooden rods arranged in a spiral to create a winding path for children to navigate. As students carefully walk through the maze without stepping on or bumping the rods, they strengthen visual discrimination, spatial awareness, balance, and gross motor coordination. The activity also encourages concentration, body control, and mindful movement while helping children develop an understanding of differences in length – an important sensorial concept that lays the foundation for future mathematical learning. Through hands-on exploration and purposeful movement, the Red Rods Maze transforms a traditional Montessori material into an engaging and confidence-building challenge.
