Assumption School Third Graders Learning through Reading and Writing
Third graders have been happily learning many new things. Recently in religion they learned all about staying in communication with Jesus through everyday prayer. Students learned that when they pray, they continually grow in their ability to act like Jesus and receive guidance from the Holy Spirit. In reading and writing students have studied many different genres of stories and types of writing. They are currently reading a realistic fiction story and writing about its setting, characters, problem, solution, and plot.
They are also writing an explanatory paper, which will contain an introduction, three body paragraphs, and a conclusion. In math third graders are busy memorizing the last of their multiplication facts all the way up to 12 x 12. They have also begun to study division, exponents, and solving equations for a missing number. They are really making great gains in math lately and are enjoying the challenging new material. In social studies students continue to learn about important historical figures.
February brings Black History Month and recently students learned about the life and work of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., Jackie Robinson, and Bessie Coleman. In science third graders recently enjoyed learning about landscapes, fossils, and the process of weathering and erosion. This class loves learning and is making great progress in all subjects!
