Barnhart’s Middle School Experience

The Barnhart Middle School experience is rich in diversity, academic strength, teamwork, developing complex thinking skills, making connections, seeking patterns, encouraging self-reflection, and building students of strong character. Barnhart’s Middle School program includes a rigorous academic, high school preparatory curriculum in English, Ancient, World and American History, Earth, Life and Physical Science, Algebra, Spanish and daily P.E.

Students leave Barnhart with a full year of high school Algebra and Spanish I. Due to the school’s rigorous Middle School program, Barnhart students are frequently placed in advanced levels of these subjects as well as honors levels in English, History and Science.

Other important aspects of its Middle School program include the Student Council, Buddy Program and experiential field trips. Each year Barnhart pair a 7th grade student with a kindergarten student as part of a leadership, mentoring and socialization program. During the first week in October each of our Middle School grades attends a week-long trip.

ASTROCAMP
On alternating years, Barnhart’s 6th and 7th graders go to AstroCamp in Idyllwild, where they have a week-long, hands-on Science adventure. They enjoy activities where they explore Space, train like NASA astronauts, take a look into the cosmos through our state-of-the-art telescopes, rock climb on Mars, fly through the air on the 2,000-foot zip line, and so much more!

NATUREBRIDGE @YOSEMITE NATIONAL PARK
On alternating years, the 6th and 7th grade students travel to Yosemite National Park with the Science Teacher where they explore both Earth Science and Life Science. This is an opportunity to learn hands-on science in one of the world’s most stunning geologic wonders.

WASHINGTON D.C.
Barnhart 8th graders pack their things, board the plane, and travel all the way to Washington DC for a week-long adventure with their History Teacher. They get to dive into the foundations of our nation, visit the Capitol Building, many monuments, Monticello, and so many more places instrumental to the history of the country.
