Blair High Sophomore Wins California IB World Schools Lifelong Learner Award
Blair High and Middle School sophomore Johanna Dickie has been chosen to receive the 2016 IB Lifelong Learner Award given by the California Association of World Schools (CAWS).
In a Facebook post, Blair Principal Trudell Skinner said Dickie was chosen the sole winner for IB (International Baccalaureate) Middle Year Program students throughout the state.
Dickie’s accomplishments stood out amongst an unprecedentedly large pool of applicants, the post said. It also mentioned the sophomore’s essay about perseverance through difficult times and growth via reflective action “truly represents the characteristics of an IB learner.
Dickie will receive a $250 cash reward and a plaque for her outstanding achievement.
Under award guidelines, Blair will also receive $250 to use toward its IB programs.
Dickie has been a consistent winner in various competitions in Pasadena and state competitions. In 2014, she was one of two Blair students who won awards at the State Science Fair, winning 4th place in Aerodynamics /Hydrodynamics.
