Ms. Garcia, one of Blair High School’s awesome International Academy teachers, arranged for author, Rene Colato Lainez, to present to its ELD1 (English Language Development) students. (Blair’s Ms. Sehba Sarwar helped set everything up.)

Mr. Lainez explained during the session that his goal as a writer is to produce good multicultural children’s literature; stories where children of color are portrayed in a positive way, where they can see themselves as heroes, and where they can dream and have hopes for the future. Mr. Lainez explains that he wants to write authentic stories of Latin American children living in the states.

Students and staff enjoyed the session with Mr. Lainez as he read “Mis Zapatos Y Yo” and look forward to having more authors visit in the future.
