Bosco Tech’s Rigorous College Preparatory Curriculum Strengthen Skills Students Need to be Successful in the Outside World

Bosco Tech’s Nathan Chao’s (CSEE ’21) summer internship at The Boeing Company has definitely been a plus for the Tech honor student. “It has solidified my interest and decision to major in computer engineering as it combines both computer science and electrical engineering,” he explained “And it allows me insight into a real-world engineering field and how to get ahead in a professional environment through with networking and experience.”

Nathan is teamed with a cohort of 12 other high school interns to support Boeing’s Advanced Satellite Control Software work to develop their software application programming interface (API).

“Before the internship, I was deciding between computer engineering or just purely computer science. However, I’ve come to realize that I can’t see myself completely in front of a screen coding all day, and have solidified my decision to pursue computer engineering. During the internship, I worked on a pure software project, and it gave me insight into a practical application for coding in the real world.”

“I’ve learned the importance of staying organized and keeping a clear mind while working,” he said. “Furthermore, I found that it is important to step away from something when you’re struggling, allowing yourself to clear your mind and have a different perspective on the task at hand.”

“I think it is vital for students to complete an internship to gain that real-world experience you can only learn on the job,” he said. “It would be ideal to get an internship in the field you want to study in college, as it could also help you decide whether or not you want to stay with that major. However, any internship over the summer keeps your brain active and allows you to meet new people that may help you in your future.”

Once his summer experience at Boeing ends and before his senior year of high school begins, the varsity baseball player, honor student, Tech Ambassador leader, and Kung Fu red belt plans to complete summer homework assignments and relax a little. He’s definitely earned some down time.
