Bowling, Bonds, and Big Futures: The Manwani Family’s Lasting Legacy at Marshall

Each year, the Manwani Family provides four Thurgood Marshall graduating seniors with a generous scholarship. In 2024, they added one additional to their giving. For the past three years, they have also invited all scholarship recipients and their guests to a fun night of bowling, complete with food and games. The total number of scholarship recipients has now reached 29 graduates, amounting to $145,000.00 in scholarships.

So, why does the Manwani Family give back to our graduating seniors at Marshall? Brothers Bhart and Shyam, who graduated from Marshall Fundamental, found that the school and its culture made a significant impact on their lives. They now want to give back and make a difference for the students at the school that meant so much to them. The Manwani family immigrated from Nigeria and moved to Pasadena in the 1980s, which led them to become students at Marshall Fundamental. They have great memories as students, student-athletes, and members of the Chess Club with Mr. Joiner.

Now, with the ability to give and a philanthropic spirit, the Manwani’s continue to support students through the Pasadena Educational Foundation (PEF), which acts as a facilitator for the scholarships. Their contributions are reaching students who meet the Manwani Family Scholarship Criteria and are truly making an impact. During Tuesday night’s event, students shared their stories, the moments they heard their names called for the scholarship and how they felt, their graduation years, the colleges they are attending, and how the scholarship has aided them in their post-secondary journeys.

It was a night of fun, gratitude, and connection. Thank you to Bhart and Shyam and the entire Manwani Family for supporting the Thurgood Marshall graduates.
