Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School’s Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Science
Building a Strong Foundation for College and Career
By immersing students in activities like practicing suturing and constructing body structures from clay, Cantwell-Sacred Heart of Mary High School’s (CSHMHS) Project Lead the Way (PLTW) Biomedical Science empowers students to build knowledge and skills in biomedical science, as well as in-demand, transportable skills like problem solving, critical and creative thinking, communication, and collaboration.
The curriculum is designed to teach students to think outside of the box and push boundaries of traditional problem solving methods. These courses prepare them to focus on the current industry skills that help students to experience STEM – not just simply memorizing facts and definitions, but actually seeing how various parts of biology can come together in real life.
Students explore concepts of the biomedical field such as examining autopsy reports, medical history, and medical treatments. Activities introduce students to human physiology, basic biology, medicine, and research processes while allowing them to develop and design specific experiments to solve problems.
