Donations to San Marino Schools Foundation Still Necessary Even with Parcel Tax Passage

The San Marino Schools Foundation offers its gratitude to the residents of San Marino for the renewal of Parcel Tax Measure E. The $4 million raised annually through Measure E comprises nearly 15% of the San Marino Unified budget and funds instructional, counseling and administrative positions throughout the District. Renewal of the parcel tax was critical to maintaining excellence in local schools and reflects the high value that residents of this great community place on preparing children for success in their future endeavors.

Donations to the District through the Schools Foundation are also a critical component of the SMUSD budget. During the 2014-2015 school year, these donations comprised almost 10% of the District’s budget and funded 32 teaching positions across all four campuses -which allowed the District to reduce class sizes in K-5, provide additional Science, English and performing arts positions at the Middle School, and fund additional Math, language and counseling positions at the High School in addition to expansion of other important academic and administrative areas across the District.

With the help and the generous charitable contributions from parents, community members and local businesses, the $2.75M raised in the 2013-2014 annual campaign will be met and continue funding the schools at current levels. But in order to meet that goal, the community’s help is essential.

For community members, business or one of the vast majority of parents in the District who have already donated, SMSF thanks them on behalf of the students in the District. For those who have yet to make a donation during the 2014-2015 annual campaign, Now is the Time. San Marino Schools Foundation looks forward to building upon the excellence of the schools and cannot do so without everyone’s support. While families in the District are requested to donate at least $2,000 per student and community members to donate $500 per household, SMSF is looking for 100% participation and donations of lower amounts will still make a positive difference in schools. Please also remember that corporate matching gifts are also important – ask employers if they have a donation matching program.

Remember, donations to the PTA and school booster clubs are important, but should not replace a donation to the Foundation. The Foundation is the only school fundraising organization that donates toward SMUSD certificated teaching positions!
