Eliot Arts Students Honored for “Roots” Essays

Pasadena Unified School District (PUSD) congratulates Eliot Arts Magnet students Omariell Isaidh Aldredge, Monahmi Ruiz, Hayden Vaughn, and Jolie Simmons for their outstanding achievement!

They were honored at the International Society of Black Latinos (ISBL) Carnaval, a vibrant cultural celebration marking “Fifteen Years of Roots, Rhythm & Resilience.” Hosted by the International Society of Black Latinos, the event brings communities together to honor the rich and often overlooked African heritage within Latin America and the Caribbean. Through music, dance, storytelling, and education, the ISBL Carnaval fosters understanding and appreciation of Afro-Latino contributions to world culture.

The students were recognized for their thoughtful essays that beautifully reflected themes of learning, resilience, and hope—capturing the spirit of unity and cultural pride at the heart of the celebration.
