Finding Light Through the Leaves: Reflections at Octavia E. Butler Magnet

“In facing our toughest obstacles, we can always turn to the wisdom in written words”.

On Thursday, January 8, at lunch, Octavia E. Butler Magnet invited its students to reflect on the first anniversary of the Eaton Fire with the context of a quote from Octavia E. Butler’s Parable of the Sower and to share a memory or a hope that they hold by writing it on a leaf to build our oak tree.

“The world is full of painful stories. Sometimes it seems as though there aren’t any other kind, and yet I found myself thinking how beautiful that glint of water was through the trees.” – August 30, 2027
