First Grade Poets Shine in Annual Villa Performance at Alverno Heights Academy
Creativity, courage, and colorful hats were on full display at Alverno Heights Academy during a cherished annual tradition that celebrates both literacy and confidence. In a delightful showcase of emerging talent, first graders took to the stage at the historic Villa to perform poetry for a live audience.
Each student was assigned a poem to memorize and perform, and they created uniquely crafted hats that reflected the themes or characters from their poem — a whimsical detail that added charm and personality to the performances.
“The poetry reading is one of those magical Alverno moments where joy, learning, and confidence come together,” said a faculty member. “Our first graders take such pride in their performances, and it’s incredible to see them stand up and share them with their families and classmates.”
Held in the scenic setting of the Villa, the event drew a supportive crowd of teachers, parents, and peers. The audience’s enthusiastic applause reflected not only appreciation for the students’ creativity but also admiration for their bravery in speaking publicly at such a young age.
This annual event is just one of many examples of how Alverno Heights Academy fosters a love of learning and the arts from the very first year of a child’s educational journey. By creating opportunities for students to express themselves and be celebrated for their individuality, the school continues its mission of developing strong, confident young leaders.
