Flintridge Preparatory School: Happy Earth Day 2020

On Earth Day, Flintridge Prep highlights some of the projects and lessons Prep teachers and students are working on together related to environmental issues, sustainability efforts, and climate change.

For the past few weeks during quarantine, Photography Teacher Ricardo Rodriguez and 10th grade students in his photo and video classes worked together on “Against Nature: An Environmental Project.” They researched environmental problems and created artwork related to their chosen issue. The website debuts today as an online exhibition showcasing the students’ work within the project, as well as a resource on climate change, particularly during the COVID-19 outbreak, and contemporary environmental artists. Students will be producing their art for “Against Nature” throughout the end of the semester.

Rodriguez prompted his students with the following question: “Currently, we are working on exterminating this virus, but how would nature and the world be if we fight together to improve the environment?” The project and the photographs “seek to ponder how we relate to the world that is around us and to inspire mindfulness about our world and not be against nature.” Swipe through to see a sampling of photographs students took for the project. #flintridgeprep #earthday #sustainability
