Flintridge Prep’s Geometry Class: Visualizing and Drawing One-Point Perspective

Flintridge Prep’s Geometry class spent their first week of classes visualizing and drawing one-point perspective, blending artistry and mathematics to better understand points, lines, and planes in 3D space.

“From a pedagogical standpoint, it can be difficult to visualize 3D objects in your head,” shares Geometry teacher Michelle Gee. “When you draw a plane in a geometry book, it looks more like a diamond shape. Through this project, they’re able to understand more how to mentally visualize geometric objects in 3D space and how to recognize them when they’re printed on 2D paper.”

This is the first year Gee has done this project with her Geometry students and enlisted the help of art teacher Melissa Manfull. Up next, the students will explore geometric patterns and tessellations in Islamic art.
