Flintridge Prep’s Instrumental and Vocal Ensembles Headline Evening of Intimate Performances

Flintridge Prep’s recent Jazz Coffee House, curated by Ross Margitza and Steve Hill, took audiences on a journey through jazz standards and modern compositions, as well as rock and pop classics from the Rolling Stones, Stevie Wonder, the Beatles, and Luiz Bonfá. With intimate performances by its instrumental and vocal ensembles, the program felt like a bittersweet goodbye to winter and a joyful hello to spring.

The Jazz Band and Jazz Rock Ensemble had stacked sets, from “Ladybird” by Tadd Dameron and “Cottontail” from Duke Ellington to the Stones’ “Paint it Black.” The Flintridge Singers performed a mash up of “Lollipop” and “Mister Sandman,” and were accompanied by Jazz Band members on two songs.

Curtain acts featured special performances of “Autumn Leaves” by Alex Mirzabeigi on vibraphone, Stiles White on guitar, Chase Walker on drums, Nico Stanton on bass, as well as a duet from Margitza and violinist Emily Kim of “You Must Believe in Spring.”
