Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy: Debater Places in National Competition

Monica Amestoy

At the National Debate Coaches Association National Championships in Las Vegas over the weekend of April 14-15, Monica Amestoy ’13 reached the Octafinals, putting her in the top 16 competitors in the United States.

Monica, whose specialty is Varsity Lincoln/Douglas debate, did well in a field crowded with top debate schools, such as Harvard-Westlake, the Bronx High School of Science in New York and The Harker School in San Jose.

A string of strong finishes in February tournaments helped Monica qualify for the national championships. This caps the Speech & Debate team’s season, though team moderator Mrs. Leilani McHugh will hold an interest meeting for current students and incoming freshmen on Thursday, May 24, at 3:30 p.m. in Room 26.
