Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy: Liquid Nitrogen Experiments in Chemistry/Physics Classes

Students in Mr. Buxman and Ms. Miller’s physics and chemistry classes had some this week studying the effects of liquid nitrogen on everyday items during in class demonstrations. Mr. Buxman and Ms. Miller dipped every day items into the liquid nitrogen and students predicted what would happen to marshmallows, eggs, helium filled balloons, water balloons and more.

Students enjoyed tasting the results of frozen marshmallows, Cheetos and ice cream made by stirring milk and sugar in a bowl of liquid nitrogen. Most exciting, perhaps, was watching a tightened water bottle filled with liquid nitrogen explode into the sky from a safe distance.
