French Language Arts at Eliot Arts Magnet

Eliot Arts Magnet Academy (EAM) is excited to offer the only Arts-integrated French Dual Language Immersion program at the secondary level in Pasadena Unified.

EAM’s program is based on a two-way model, meaning that classrooms are composed of both English-dominant and French-dominant speakers. Students support each other in their development of both languages.

Students advance their language skills by taking two or more classes in French each year, including French Language Arts and world history taught in French.

In addition to arts integration in core classes, specialized arts experiences such as musical theatre are offered after school.

Some program features:
• French Language Arts
• Ancient Civilizations (6th grade) taught in French
• World History taught in French (beginning in 2023-2024)
• U.S. History taught in French (beginning in 2024-2025)

Program Goals:

Bilingualism and Bi-literacy: Students develop a high level of thinking, listening, speaking, reading, writing proficiency in the English and French.

Academic Excellence: Students strive for academic excellence in all subject areas, meeting or exceeding District and Common Core State Standards.

Multicultural Understanding: Students develop positive attitudes and appreciation toward world languages and cultures in our global society, promoting their involvement in world issues.
