From Harbors to Rainforests: Westridge Seniors Discover Australia’s Wild Beauty

From harbor crossings to rainforest trails, Westridge School seniors explored the diversity of Australia’s environment and culture during Discovery Week! Students started in Sydney, crossing Sydney Harbour by ferry to Manly Beach, visiting the Opera House and Botanical Gardens, and riding the scenic railway through the Blue Mountains. The group then headed north, where they snorkeled the Great Barrier Reef, visited a wildlife habitat sanctuary and turtle rehab center, explored the Daintree Rainforest, and cruised the Daintree River to spot crocodiles and cassowaries! Students also observed a traditional Kuku Yalanji smoking ceremony – a cleansing ritual performed by Aboriginal people, which includes burning native plants to purify, protect, and welcome visitors to the rainforest.
