FSHA’s Senior Research Showcase Demonstrates Depth, Rigor, and Real-World Impact

From the Archer STEM Symposium to the FSHA Senior Research Showcase “Revealing Veritas” on the Hill on May 22, our students are showing what’s possible when curiosity, rigor, and support align. Don’t miss your chance to be inspired. RSVP now to the Senior Research Showcase and see the future—in action.

Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy’s Honors Engineering for Social Good and Honors Scientific Research students made a powerful impression at the 2025 STEM Symposium hosted by the Archer School for Girls. Showcasing original research, innovation, and college-level scientific acumen, students presented detailed research posters and participated in breakout sessions, joining peers from independent schools across Los Angeles.

Four FSHA student research groups, recipients of the coveted RISE Scientific and Engineering Achievement Award, were invited to give 15-minute breakout presentations—a testament to the excellence and professionalism of their work. Competing with top-tier schools, FSHA students secured 9 of the 17, $500 RISE Awards, continuing a remarkable 10-year streak of excellence at this highly competitive symposium.

“The expertise displayed by students speaks to the strength of our four-year Research Program and the way we intentionally build skills across our curriculum,” said Ty Buxman, FSHA’s Research Dean. “This success in engaging the research process is the result of years of inquiry, experimentation, and support.”

For ten consecutive years, Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy’s research students have stood out for the clarity, creativity, and impact of their presentations. This year was no exception. Their projects explored complex topics ranging from neurobiology to environmental science and regenerative ecology.

The school proudly recognizes the contributions of science teacher Ty Buxman and longtime research mentor Bruce Waggoner, whose guidance has been instrumental in mentoring students and sustaining the program’s high standards.
