Garden Project Presentation at Blair High School’s First Thursday Event



Blair High School has organized a number of meetings and presentations to be held on Thursday, December 6th. The monthly parent meeting will happen on this day, parents will get updated on events happening in the school. There will also be a talk by Nisha Vida, from Muir Ranch who will be talking about the importance of school farms. The event will conclude with a substance abuse talk.

The meeting will begin with dinner being served at the schools main cafeteria at 5:15. After the dinner, at 5:30 to 6:00pm there will be a presentation of the monthly update. Then, at 6:00pm, there will be another presentation of this month’s special topic.

This month’s special topic is the Blair Garden Project. Nisha Vida will be presenting this talk and will discuss the importance of a school garden in enforcing inter-disciplinary learning and thinking. There will also be a discussion on the garden’s goals, which will include a talk on; building the garden as 6th grade IB project, selling the plants from the garden to the local community and how working with the Culinary Arts academy will bring fresh food into Blair High’s kitchen.

Muir Ranch Garden Manager will also be talking to the students about healthy eating, environmental science, anthropology and how to be part of the solutions faced globally and locally.

As the event comes to a close, there will be pull-out meetings at 6:30pm. One of the presentations will be at the Family Resource Center, titled “How Can I Tell If My Child Is Using Drugs?” There will be Spanish translation for this presentation but only adults are allowed to attend.
