High Point Debate Team Takes 1st Place at LILA Tournament



The High Point Academy debate squad enjoyed a well-deserved victory on Saturday, February 8th, taking 1st place at the LILA Debate Tournament. This competition, taking place at Lycée International de Los Angeles, welcomed 39 teams from six schools with the winning team determined based on total wins and percentage of wins. The dedication, teamwork, and passion the High Point Eagles exhibited paid off as they left the tournament victorious.

Five of High Point’s teams of three placed in the tournament. Out of over 100 speakers, the following debaters placed based on their individual speaker scores: 4th place: Simon L., 7th place: Nolan L., 11th place: Amy F., 16th place: Carter H., 20th place: Hannalee T., 22nd place: LJ T., 24th place: Eason Z., and 25th place: Kaden K.

The HPA debate squad is now preparing for the Tri-League Tournament held on March 15th. The students will debate about the use of AI tools in education, and whether countries found guilty of human rights violations should remain in the United Nations.
