Huntington Middle School 6th Graders Study Convection Current

Huntington Middle School 6th grade science students used red dye to trace convection currents in a fluid. Boiling water was placed in a styrofoam cup under the center of the plastic pan. This created a heat source that showed how fluids (water and air) behave when they are unevenly heated. This is part of a unit in weather and climate.

Lesson Goal: Observe and be able to define what a convection current is and how it’s responsible for all the weather we experience on Earth.
