International School of Los Angeles Debate Club Celebrates Stellar Year of Achievements
The International School of Los Angeles is proud to announce a series of remarkable achievements by its debate club in various prestigious forums this past year. The school’s debate team culminated the year with significant honors at the High School Public Debate Program (HSPDP) National Championship, securing 2nd place overall and 3rd place in the championship. Individual members shone brightly, with students placing 1st, 7th, and 9th among hundreds of the nation’s top debaters.
Earlier this year, students from the school’s Model United Nations (MUN) team traveled to New York City to participate in the world’s largest and most prestigious MUN conference. There, they engaged with international delegates, delving deep into global issues and honing their policy debate skills in a truly global arena.
Adding to their accolades, 10th graders involved in the Youth & Government program through the YMCA showcased their legislative acumen by proposing and debating their own legislation. These young legislators had the unique opportunity to debate at Burbank City Hall and within the historic chambers of the California State Capitol in Sacramento. There, they joined 2,000 other students from across California to engage in governance processes, even electing a governor to temporarily fill Gavin Newsom’s office, demonstrating the practical impact of their rhetorical skills.
“The successes of our debate teams across these varied platforms highlight the effectiveness of our comprehensive educational approach, which not only focuses on academic excellence but also emphasizes real-world applications of learning,” said a spokesperson for the school. “We are immensely proud of all our students who have shown incredible dedication and skill, proving themselves as capable future leaders.”
