International School of Los Angeles Students Embark on Global Educational Journeys
Students from the International School of Los Angeles (LILA) recently returned from enriching international trips that spanned three continents and offered hands-on learning experiences aligned with their academic curricula.
During the February break, 26 twelfth graders had the educational adventure of a lifetime in Greece. Immersing themselves in the world of classical philosophers, they explored iconic historical sites such as the Acropolis and delved into the rich tapestry of Greek history that they had previously only encountered in textbooks.
April break saw two groups of students expanding their horizons across different parts of the globe. Eleventh graders, fulfilling their IB CAS (Creativity, Activity, and Service) requirements, traveled to Gandoca, Costa Rica. There, they engaged in community service projects, including crop planting, which not only contributed to the local environment but also allowed them to practice their Spanish in a real-world setting.
Meanwhile, students from the eighth to tenth grades ventured to Montreal, Canada. They visited prestigious universities like McGill and Concordia, took part in a photography lesson, and explored Montreal’s rich history and culture. This trip also provided an opportunity for students to reconnect with LILA alumni residing in the area.
Each trip was carefully curated to ensure that students could absorb educational content in a practical, immersive environment, greatly enhancing their understanding and appreciation of diverse cultures and global histories. The faculty and students returned enriched by the vibrant atmospheres, interactive learning experiences, and diverse culinary delights offered by each location.
