La Salle Girls Strike Gold Again



On Wednesday, the La Salle girls track and field team won its third consecutive league championship and its fourteenth in the last twenty-one years. That was an outstanding feat with the likes of St. Mary’s Academy, Serra, Bishop Amat, and Bishop Montgomery. The victorious season was keyed by outstanding all-around athlete, India Hines (headed to West Point), first year Lancer sprinter/jumper, senior Ingeborg Bakke, frosh Pole Vaulter Alexandra Akobian, senior jumper Dionna Williams, distance runner, junior Hannah Howard, Thrower, junior Jane Zanteson, and long Sprinter, sophomore Eleni Daughters. Many other athletes contributed to this season with still more possibilities to come in 2015.

With a combined 114 years of experience, the lancers coaching staff is full of seasoned veterans committed to the Lasallian principle of students-first. Fred Riley Head Coach/Sprints – 31 years; 21 at La Salle; Duane Norris Head Assistant Coach/Distance – 36 years; 21 at La Salle; Joe Blackman Assistant/Horizontal Jump Coach – 21 years; 21 at La Salle; David Shaw Assistant Coach/Throws – 12 years; 12 at La Salle; Chris Ring Assistant Coach/Pole Vault/Conditioning – 8 years; 8 years at La Salle; and Kjersti Housman-Holyfield Assistant Coach/Hurdles/High Jump 6 years; 6 years at La Salle).
