Maranatha High School: Food Drive to Support Pasadena Nonprofit “STARS”

Even before the pandemic, many in the Greater Pasadena Area were suffering or in need. But as you all know, this last year has only compounded the needs many families are facing. As a school community, Maranatha have an opportunity to help.

Maranatha High School (MHS) is launching a Food Drive to support a local Pasadena non-profit organization, Stars (formerly the Lake Avenue Community Foundation). Last March, when the Stay-At-Home Order began, Stars had to suspend their after-school, education programs that served underprivileged students, and pivot to be a food distribution center. Many of the families that they served found themselves struggling to put meals on the table. With the help of two chefs and many generous donors, the staff and volunteers at Stars have been able to provide nutritious meals and grocery items to grateful families each week.

As followers of Christ, MHS want to do what they can to supply the most basic of needs for families in the San Gabriel Valley which is why it is hosting a school-wide Food Drive on Thursday and Friday, March 25-26. Maranatha families, faculty, staff, and friends are encouraged to bring items from the Stars Wish List (view list here) to our campus donation drop boxes in the upper visitor’s parking lot between 9:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. A parent volunteer will be present to direct and assist donors. We will be looking for parents who can help us staff the event, so watch the school’s SignUp Genius page if you’d like to volunteer your time also.

Please take a few minutes now to view the list of items needed and think about what you can contribute to support Stars and the families they serve. Then, mark your calendar for March 25-26 and invite your friends, family, and co-workers to support the Food Drive. Every little bit helps!

On behalf of the event’s sponsors—the Maranatha Board of Trustees, Parent Association, Athletic Booster Club, and Friends of Maranatha Arts—thank you for helping us make a difference in the lives of Pasadena families, and for shining the light of Christ into Pasadena.
