Maranatha High School Welcomes Rich Huynh as Girls’ Volleyball Coach

Coach Rich Huynh enters his first year as Maranatha’s Head Girls’ Volleyball Coach. He is looking to build on the program’s most recent success.

Before coming to Maranatha High School, Coach Huynh was the Interim Head Women’s Volleyball Coach at Chaffey College where he took over the program after a two-season layoff due to COVID-19. Coach Huynh guided the program to a successful season and had two players
named to the All-Conference team.

Prior to Chaffey College, Coach Huynh was the First Assistant Coach at Occidental College (2015-2020). His primary responsibilities were to train the setters and create a faster offensive system. He assisted in creating competitive drills/games during practices, scouting upcoming opponents, and making in-game adjustments. He also assisted in recruiting potential student-athletes and was responsible for teaching and leading volleyball camps at Occidental College.

From 2012-2018, Coach Huynh was the Head Coach for the UCLA Women’s Volleyball Club team. Under his guidance, the club team consistently improved each year and was consistently ranked in the top 25 nationally. The program had its best finish in 2016, placing third at the annual USA National Collegiate Volleyball Federation Tournament.

Coach Huynh was also named Coach of the Year in 2016 in the California Collegiate Volleyball Conference.

Coach Huynh graduated from Cal State LA in 2001 with a B.A. in child development. He recently received his M.S. degree in Coaching and Exercise Science from Concordia University, Irvine.

Maranatha Athletic Director Sammy Skinner commented, “Rich brings a wealth of experience and knowledge to our volleyball program. He is a tremendous teacher of the game and will lead our program with strong Christian values.”

Coach Huynh is excited to get started. Here is the information for all returning and incoming students interested in Volleyball.
