Maranatha Performing Arts Goes “Back to the Future”

Maranatha High School recently held their Spring Performing Arts Showcase titled, “Back to the Future.” In honor of the school’s 50th anniversary the event highlighted music and dance from every decade Maranatha has been in existence.

From the sixties to the two-thousands, Maranatha’s Orchestra, Advanced Orchestra, Mixed Ensemble, and Dance Company students took the audience on a journey through the music and dance of Maranatha’s past five decades. For Beatles fans, there was a dance routine set to “Come Together” and the Mixed Ensemble sang “All You Need Is Love.”

Those that were more into ‘leisure suits and glitter balls’ enjoyed a special combined medley called “Disco Fever.” “The Magnificent Seven” and “Footloose” movie themes and Michael Jackson’s “Thriller” were performed as well. Since the heritage of Maranatha is grounded in Christian faith, different decades of sacred music were also woven into the evening. Over 75 students performed in the exciting culmination of this year’s Maranatha Performing Arts calendar.
