Maranatha Speech and Debate Team Wins at SCDL Spring Varsity Tournaments

Maranatha High School’s Speech and Debate Team had a successful outing at the recent Southern California Debate League (SCDL) Spring Speech and Debate Tournaments.

The team made a strong impression, showcasing their speech and debate skills and earning several accolades. In particular, senior Isabella Madrid shined at the debate tournament, earning a trophy in the Lincoln Douglas debate while maintaining an impressive undefeated record of 4-0 in the preliminary rounds. Isabella’s strong performance is a testament to her dedication to the team and her commitment to excellence.

Another standout performer was junior Dillan Desai, who also competed in the Lincoln Douglas debate category and earned a trophy at his first varsity debate tournament. Dillan’s achievements reflect his natural talent and his hard work in preparation for the competition.

In addition to the successes of Isabella Madrid and Dillan Desai at the debate tournament, senior Lily Amateau also had a standout performance at the Varsity Speech Tournament. Lily took home the trophy in the Original Prose and Poetry category, which showcases her talents in original script writing and performance. Her powerful and moving dramatic interpretation of her personal Christian testimony inspired everyone in the audience and further demonstrated her exceptional abilities as a performer. The Original Prose and Poetry category is a true test of a competitor’s creativity, writing skills, and stage presence, and Lily Amateau demonstrated her mastery of all three in her impressive performance. The Maranatha High School community is proud of Lily and her accomplishments and looks forward to seeing her continued success in future speech and debate tournaments.

The victories of these three talented students are a testament to the hard work and dedication of the entire Maranatha High School Speech and Debate Team. Under Mr. Mesisca’s leadership, the team members are encouraged to grow and develop their skills, and diligence and determination have paid off in these recent successes. The future looks bright for the Maranatha High School Speech and Debate Team, and MHS look forward to seeing their continued excellence in the years to come.
