Mayfield Junior School’s D-Lab Inventors

Mayfield Junior School’s IDEA Lab students took creativity up a level with a design game called The Extraordinaires. Using concepts, questions, and prompts to boost imagination, the game guides students through elements of the design thinking process such as empathy and resilience. Students developed products to provide a solution for some extraordinary characters and situations. Super hero hydration pack ? Ninja sleeping space? Rapper Wardrobe Selector? From concept drawing to construction engineering with recyclables and D-Lab resources, students collaborated with out of the box ideas and creativity soared. Anything can become possible with imagination!

The IDEA Lab is one third of an enrichment rotation for seventh graders that also includes courses in music and health and wellness. The course challenges students to question, design, collaborate and think critically in an atmosphere of choice and flexibility.
