At Mayfield Senior School, the Admissions department started the 2020-21 academic year with a lot of enthusiasm and a fair amount of uncertainty too. How long would the school remain in remote learning? How could students make decisions about their high school without getting a chance to visit their prospective campuses?

Making the Mayfield experience more accessible is a cause near and dear to the admissions experts at Mayfield. Director of Admissions, Merilisa Ramirez, has worked at Mayfield since 2006, and is the mother of a current Mayfield senior and Assistant Director of Admissions Jade Stewart is a Mayfield alum from the class of 2009.

“After a spring of remote learning, we started to hear from parents we don’t often hear from,” says Ms. Ramirez. “These were families who felt their current schools hadn’t been able to keep up with their daughters’ needs during remote learning.” Parents who had never applied to private school before, either in public schools or in a homeschool environment, were expressing a lot more interest. So Ms. Ramirez decided to create a simple “Admissions 101” event, a free discussion directed at parents who were unfamiliar with the private high school application process, to answer all the questions they might have and remove any remaining mystery. It was clear there was a need for a service like that because as soon as she posted sign-ups online, the sessions started to book up quickly!

This year has been full of challenges for families and Mayfield wants to make the admissions process as stress-free as possible. And there are still a few slots left in the Oct 1 and Oct 8th sessions, so sign up now! There are some big changes in admissions at Mayfield, including no ISEE testing this year, and the department will be offering a virtual visit to our Bellefontaine campus in mid-October.
