Art integration into education was essential to Cornelia Connelly, foundress of the Society of the Holy Child Jesus. Following in her traditions of incorporating arts into the education of every child, Mayfield Senior School not only boats a Fine Arts Conservatory program featuring seven art concentrations, but also hosts and annual “Arts Quest”, a chance for all students to explore arts with local professional artists.

This spring, Arts Quest was a day-long experience for all students, where each young woman was able to participate in two seminars during the day. These experiences were taught by local artists and incorporated many different hands-on learning activities for students to explore new mediums of artistic expression. These workshops included mime theatre, mask making, fashion drawing, world drumming and rhythm, optical illusions painted on wood, hip-hop dancing and musical theatre, among others.

The day began with a performance by Diavolo Dance Theater, an internationally renowned modern acrobatic dance company. Workshops were conducted by artists such as Keith Berger, Marla Leigh, Valarie Daval, Annmarie Boyle, Abira Ali, Guadalupe Montalvo and Michael Skidgel. The myriad of opportunities for artistic exploration allowed student artists on campus to explore a new artistic passion, as well as those who did not already participate in the arts to experience their creative side in the week before finals.
